This morning's commute was certainly livened up when a group of panda bears were spotted at various London landmarks on what seemed to be a family day out!
The furry foursome – two adults and two babies - plodded along Millennium Bridge before boarding the Coca-Cola London Eye to check out the capital's views. The family finished their tour at Waterloo Station where they boarded a train to Chessington South – headed for their new home, ahead of the launch of the new live Pandamonium Show at Chesssington World of Adventures Resort.
The un-bear-lievably life-like animatronic pandas have been created as a world's first for a theme park. The show will be a truly unique experience for guests visiting Chessington World of Adventures Resort and opens to the public on 25th March 2016.
Rob Mayer, MD and co-owner of MillenniumFX, the minds behind the panda family and many other animatronic creations, said, "We watched hours of videos of pandas, noting the way they behave and move. To allow a human to move in the same way, we came up with the idea to attach the performer's ankle to the upper thigh meaning they are able to walk on all fours once in the suit, and are therefore in proportion to a real panda. The suits are also built like a mammal; there is an under structure (a skeleton), a muscle layer, then a lycra skin structure and finally, a specialized fur skin."
The show itself is beautifully scripted and designed to wow onlookers, children and adults, with the pandas' lifelikeness and the technology used. To add to the realism of the show, the pandas have sound activated jaw movements; the sound waves of an adult roar or baby panda squeak will transmit to the mouths making them move in time. Random ear mechanisms keep them looking natural.
"We're thrilled to be the world's first theme park to host a live animatronic show," says Chessington’s Marketing Director, Marianne McGoldrick. "Watching them now, interacting with everyone, I can’t get over how life-like they are and I'm so excited to see our guests’ reactions. This show will give families a one of a kind experience and they will be able to get closer to these amazing animals than would ever be possible anywhere else in the UK, meaning they will also be really educational –allowing people to see these spectacular, endangered creatures up close for the first time ever."
Live Pandamonium shows will run throughout the day at Chessington World of Adventures Resort during the park’s open season. For tickets and more information on the new live show, visit www.chessington.com.
