Snakes
Overview
Learn more about Creepy Cave's slippery snakes below:
Jamaican Boa
Jamaican Boas spend most of their time in rock crevasses, caves and trees. They are nocturnal, and hunt for their prey during the night. Due to deforestation, introduction of mammal predators to Jamaica, and an ever-expanding human population, the Jamaican Boa is in serious threat of becoming extinct.
FUN FACT: Baby Jamaican Boas are pale orange, gradually becoming yellow or a reddish brown as they become adults.
Madagascan Tree Boa
These beautiful snakes are medium sized constrictors who grow up to 2 metres in length. They live in tropical forests where they will drop from a branch onto unsuspecting small prey. Females are larger than males with some weighing as much 13kgs.
FUN FACT: When the female is pregnant, her skin darkens in colour. This change helps her to stay warmer and help her young to develop quicker.
Sri Lankan Pythons
This python is one of the largest species of snake in the world, with some adults growing to between 6 – 9 metres long! Sri Lankan Pythons are brown, yellow and cream in colour with dark brown markings, including a V-shaped mark on their head. They are quite solitary, calm creatures who often hunt at night.
FUN FACT: Pythons have a reticulated jaw, which means it can open up wide to swallow large prey. They have been known to eat animals as large as deer!
False Water Cobra
The false water cobra likes to live in wet, humid marshlands of the South American rainforest. On average they grow up to two meters in length and live for up to twenty years. They are carnivores which mean they like to eat frogs, fish, reptiles, small mammals and birds.
FUN FACT: The false water cobra can flatten their necks like a true cobra does for intimidating their prey!

THE BEST!!!
OK well not long ago I went to Chessinton. I'm a complete fan of snakes, spiders and all insects! I was driving my mum and dad mad to go to Creepy Caves first, so there we went! My mum and dad were scared and I watched one of the Zoo Keepers hold a snake. It was the best part of the day and the best day of my life. Thanks Chessington!
