Anyone who has ever longed to come face to face with these impressive primates will not be disappointed as the only thing separating inhabitants and guests are huge viewing windows, designed for both close visitor access and total gorilla comfort.
Feeding Times
Why not come down and watch the gorillas feed? Feeding times are at 11.45am and 1.45pm and are a great way to see the gorillas playing and eating.
Meet the Gorillas
Chessington's gorilla group of two males and seven females, is one of very few that includes three generations of the same family.
Family head is Kumba, who despite weighing in at a hefty 35 stone is a gentle giant. Female 'Number One' is Kaja, totally devoted to Kumba and, unusually for a gorilla, very open in her affections!
Her daughter Asili, is next in the pecking order, closely followed by Shani, who is mum to Kumi, born in August 2004. Then there are the younger members of the family, seven year old Buu, 3 year old Shanga, year old Kumili. Completing the family is Bafia, who, with no blood relations in the group, comes last in the status stakes, but is happy to play the role of reliable aunty.
